Job Description
BCIS is a not-for-profit, independent, N-12 co-educational day school. BCIS is a dynamic, IB World School (PYP, MYP & DP) with a strong focus on inquiry, creativity and personalized learning to challenge and support all students.
Functional Relationships: Secondary School Principal, Secondary School Deputy Principal, DP Coordinator, MYP Coordinator, Counselors, Learning Support Teachers, Advisors, Teachers, Assistant Teachers, Administration Staff, Students, and Parents.
Reporting to the Secondary School Principal, the Secondary School Learning Support Teaching Assistant will work as a member of the LS team to provide support, both in and out of classrooms, for identified students with specific learning needs.
Person Specifications:
· Fluent in English and Chinese
· Bachelor degree in English or Education
· Teaching qualification and experience preferred
· Experience working with Middle and/or High School students preferred
· Flexible and motivated to learn new teaching methodologies and support strategies
Role Specifications:
· Develop a supportive relationship with students, parents, teachers and counsellors to maximize learning opportunities for LS students both in and out of classrooms.
· Develop, in collaboration with LS teachers, differentiated materials and strategies to facilitate LS students to access the curriculum.
· Work individually and in small groups with identified students, both in and out of the classroom.
· Participate in and provide updates and feedback to teacher/parent meetings as necessary.
· Assist in recording student progress and writing student reports.
· Work with LS team in sourcing and purchasing materials locally and internationally.
· Understand and implement BCIS, LS and SS policies, procedures and practices.
· Maintain confidentiality about all school and student-related matters.
· Complete any other tasks as assigned by the MS & HS Principals or Head of School.
General Requisite Skills:
Communication – Fluent in both spoken and written Chinese and English
ICT Skills – Word-processing, spreadsheets, slide presentations, Photoshop, or equivalent applications, and database management. Mac skills an advantage and must be willing to learn and develop a high ICT skill level
Interpersonal Skills – Polite and professional at all times in dealings with Chinese and English speakers within and beyond the school community in both oral and written forms of communication, tone, manner and presentation, being a school representative.
Willingness to Learn and Acceptance of Responsibility – Preparedness to accept training and to seek assistance and advice when necessary as well as an ability and interest in solving problems
Initiative – realising opportunities to improve the work space and activities and recommending effective changes that benefit efficiency
Pride in work – meeting deadlines and completing high quality work in required formats, keeping workspace clean and clear as well as keeping school information secure
Respect for school – understanding and acting in accordance with the BCIS mission and philosophy to best serve students, parents and staff
